Sea of Creepy Monsters
Sea of Creepy Monsters. DOCUMENTARY FROM. The Lembeh strait in the northern part of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi is a unique hotspot of marine biodiversity. Countless amazing creatures thrive in the underwater landscape. Over the course of four years film-makers captured hundreds of hours of never-filmed-before behaviour. Elegant seahorses, thumb-splitting Mantis shrimp, and deadly mino-octopuses are just some of the remarkable creatures they managed to film. As most underwater drama is hidden from plain sight, only the ground-breaking macrophotography in this film can reveal the awe and beauty of life in the Sea of Creepy Monsters.

Out of the Ashes
Out of the Ashes. DOCUMENTARY FROM. On the 7th of February 2009, bushfires tore through Victoria. They killed 173 people; destroyed over 2,000 homes and incinerated swathes of prime forest and its wildlife. Fires, though, are a natural process and these mountain forests need fire to regenerate. Severe bushfires occur in Australia at least every 70 years and a mountain ash forest can take up to two hundred years to recover. Yet, even in the face of overwhelming devastation, plants and animals have an uncanny knack of bouncing back, and the environment an extraordinary capacity for healing. Out Of The Ashes examines the drought leading up to the fires, the ensuing fires and the ecological recovery over the next 12 months through the first hand experiences of people who were involved. Scientists, rangers, animal care workers and people who escaped the fires describe their experiences. Just one year after Black Saturday we can see the resilience of the natural world. How it's bounced back from the most destructive fires in Australia's history. How Nature rises out of the ashes.

The Climate Change Bug
The Climate Change Bug. DOCUMENTARY FROM. For some time now the question of whether or not climate change is taking place has been more or less settled. The issue that remains largely unanswered is however: how will we cope with climate change and what effect it will have on our flora and fauna. Already there are signs that serious ecological and biological changes are taking place, not only far away in exotic regions of the world, but also right on our own doorstep, here in Europe. This documentary seeks to explain broadly which animals and plants are most likely to spread across Central Europe and shows what we could expect running into in a few years' time. One kind of tick, for example, which originally comes from Africa and causes malaria-like symptoms, is becoming more and more common. And this is not the only "exotic" species that are increasingly surviving the milder winters and proliferating, confronting us with a slow-going, almost hidden change in European wildlife. Itävalta 2008. O: Kurt Mündl.
