360° - GÉO
Nicaragua: the curse of the lobster fishermen
The Miskito Indians are born divers, but to catch spiny lobsters around the coast of Nicaragua, they sometimes need to dive down as far as forty metres up to fifteen times a day, using very poor equipment. Fear is their constant companion, and every year, around a hundred of them are victims of diving accidents. This is why the government wants to ban this type of fishing, even though it represents an economic activity that is vital for the community.
Directed by: Franck Kleemann, 2008.
