Islay: The Secret Life of Whisky
The wild and unspoiled Scottish island of Islay is ideal for whisky production thanks to its peat, its pure water and its iodized sea air. Swept by the powerful Atlantic winds, this ''Queen of the Hebrides'' at the edge of Europe has forged the character of its inhabitants. These include Mark Reynier, the owner of the Bruichladdich distillery, Jim Mc Ewann, a highly talented master distiller, James Brown, a breeder of Highland Cattle and Jeremy Hastings a five-star nature guide. In the copper stills, Jim is preparing to produce the world's most powerful whisky. When placed in the cellar after four distillations, its alcohol content can reach 88%!
